Balls, Balls, and More Balls

Christ on a cracker, Oliver is intense. Who knew there was this other side to him, the competitive athlete on full display? The way the dead center of the palm of his hand meets the miniature ball with such precision, adds another layer to his expertise.

When he first mentioned handball, my dirty little mind traveled to certain naughty things I want, but shouldn’t, which include him naked, and me on top, riding him, old lady knees and all.

You see, I’m at the fuck it stage of our affair. No more thinking about how wrong this is because of our age difference and other complications. Instead, I’m treating my attraction to him as natural, because it is. What woman can resist his sultry smile and the way that he stares at me as if I’m the second coming of the Virgin Mary?

Okay, bad analogy, but still, the man worships me, and I’ve never had that before. It’s nice to feel wanted by someone as opposed to a burden.

Marley has it wrong.

It’s I who isn’t worthy of him. He, on the other hand, is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, and with each passing hour, I’m coming to realize how lucky I am. Usually, my relationships aren’t as easy, but with Oliver, they’re effortless, like breathing, my attraction to him unconscious, second nature. I won’t let my constant perceptions of self-loathing and self-doubt be the downfall of something possibly epic.

“Sick shot,” the Asian guy sitting Indian style on the bench next to me says. He smacks his hand down hard on the surface, startling me. “If this keeps up, it will be the beat down of the century.”

I’m trying to follow what’s happening, but I’m still slightly confused. I know the object of the game is to keep the little blue ball in the box, or something along those lines of hitting it low and to the left?

At that thought, my gaze trains on Oliver’s junk for a second, his loose-fitting jeans hiding the direction he hangs.

Get your mind out of the gutter.

“So.” The guy next to me garners my attention. Inclining his head to the side, he briefly studies me, his gaze, knowing. “You’re Carrie.” He announces as if I don’t remember my own name.

“That I am. And you are?”

“Pat.” I extend my hand to shake his and he grasps it, a conspiratorial smile flashing across his face. “My lady,” he says, and before I get the chance to stop him, he presses his lips to my hand. Not soon after that, out of my periphery, a blue mass comes flying in our direction, landing on the side of Pat’s head.

“Dayumm,” the other guy, I think someone called him Chris barks, mirth in his voice. “He’s gonna kick your ass.”

“Get your lips off my woman,” Oliver practically growls. Well, maybe it was a snarl, but Pat doesn’t cower in fear. Instead, he laughs.

“Stu said you’d notice if I put my legendary moves on her.”
